Reproductive Rights Action Plan

The Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade was cruel, dehumanizing, and dangerous. It does not reflect the will of the majority of Americans who deeply value maintaining control of their bodies, their lives, and their futures.

We must fight back. We can protect our fundamental rights. Take action today:

  • Donate to Abortion Funds

  • Fight back at the Ballot Box

  • Protect Reproductive Rights in VermonT

Get IN the fight - Here is what you can do right now to protect abortion rights

  • Donate to Abortion Funds: Donating to an abortion fund helps to provide funding, travel, lodging, and other wrap-around supports for people seeking abortion-related care. You can support abortion funds where it’s often most difficult to access an abortion here.

  • Vote for Pro-Choice Candidates: We need to support pro-choice candidates across the country, up and down the ballot. Congress has failed to protect abortion rights for 50 years. It is time to not only elect pro-choice candidates, but pro choice-champions. If we don’t win a Democratic majority in the House and Senate in November, a national abortion ban is coming. Get in contact with your local, state, and federal legislators and ask them where they stand on abortion rights.

    1. We need 52 seats in the Senate to make Kyrsten Sinema and Joe Manchin, two conservative Democrats opposed to any filibuster reforms, moot.

    2. We need to hold a majority in the House - this will require a lot of hard work and money in states where Republicans are looking to flip blue-to-red. But we CAN make change if we get involved!

    3. Find races where you can make the biggest impact with Swing Left.

Becca's Plan to Protect Reproductive Rights

PROTECTING REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS FEDERALLY:

If elected, Becca will fight for legislation that respects Americans’ right to bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom. Congress has failed to act for 50 years. The time is now.

  • Codify Roe v. Wade in federal law with the Women’s Health Protection Act.

  • Repeal the Hyde Amendment, which blocks abortion coverage under federally funded health care programs. This can be done through the budget reconciliation process, which bypasses the Senate filibuster, so it does not require a Senate supermajority to pass.

  • Pass the EACH Act to reverse the Hyde Amendment and expand insurance coverage for abortion care.

STRUCTURAL REFORM:

The U.S. government should work for and serve the people. We need to strengthen our democracy – strengthen the right to vote and reform our judicial and legislative system.

  • We need to put everything on the table and have a serious conversation about reforming the Supreme Court including expanding the number of justices, term limits, and an ethical code that is enforced. This is the most extreme Court in modern history and undermining abortion rights will not be the end of their efforts to set the clocks back.

  • It’s long past time to abolish the filibuster. A procedural rule is not more important than our dignity and freedom. Time for the Senate to act like it.

  • We need to ensure the majority of Americans who support abortion care can freely and fairly express their voice in the ballot box. The Supreme Court has undermined the right to vote and our fundamental rights to make choices about our bodies. Enough. This is a country by the people and for the people. Becca will work to pass legislation, including the For the People Act, Freedom to Vote Act, and John Lewis Voting Rights Act, to expand and protect voting rights.

REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS IN VERMONT:

Abortion is still legal in Vermont. We worked in the legislature to pass the strongest reproductive rights protections in the nation. In November, Vermonters will vote on Proposal 5, the Reproductive Liberty Amendment, to explicitly protect reproductive freedom in our state’s constitution. Becca is proudly voting yes and encourages all Vermonters to do the same.

Becca is a proven reproductive rights champion. As Senate Majority Leader, Becca worked closely with her colleagues to pass some of the strongest reproductive rights protections in the nation. She will bring the same fierce commitment to Congress.

We owe it to our community to fight for these essential rights – not only for a world where abortion care is legal and safe, but also destigmatized and accessible to all.

We cannot watch from the sidelines. Ultimately the people will decide the contours of our rights and freedoms, and Becca will fight alongside us in Congress to ensure the voice of the people is heard.
